Singapore's Ministry of Education announced on 13 July that the 2026 Mother Tongue Languages Symposium would take place on Saturday 1 August at Singapore EXPO, the first time the event has been held there. Organised by MOE with the three Mother Tongue Language Learning and Promotion Committees for Chinese, Malay and Tamil, the 14th edition carried the theme "A Garden for Joyful Discovery".
Aimed at parents and children, the programme offered 42 sharing sessions and interactive workshops, alongside 41 exhibitors from schools and community partners. MOE curriculum specialists covered the mother tongue curricula, how digital resources can support learning at home, and practical ways to raise bilingual children; speakers included academics, educators, early-childhood advocates and media personalities.
Singapore's approach to mother tongue learning in an English-dominant environment, built on home–school partnership and children's interest, is a useful reference for Chinese education overseas.
